Her nickname is Mac – but it can’t be long before Michaela Sewell’s team-mates add the famous ‘Super’ prefix.
Harraby hit-girl Michaela has surely shot herself into the soccer record books by plundering a stunning twenty-one minute double hat-trick.
The 17-year-old striker went on to wrack up a phenomenal total of TWELVE goals in a recent friendly win over Ambleside OUC.
She netted a treble in just eight minutes from the kick-off. And 13 minutes later, that tally was doubled.
But the sharp-shooters exploits weren’t finished there and she went on to hit the back of the net six more times in the 29-0 romp, even putting team-mate Claire Blakey’s sensational seven-goal haul in the shade.
“I really enjoyed the game and the whole team deserved the score as we played really well,” said Michaela, who is on a Football scholarship at Newton Rigg.
“I began kicking a ball around with my brothers when I was about four and then joined boys’ teams at school before going into girls’ teams. I’m hoping that I can go all the way to the top in the game but my ambitions for this season are to win the League and to score as many goals as I can,” said Michaela, who has been inspired by Alan Shearer and Kelly Smith in the game.
Sewell has scored ten times in just three league games in the inaugural Cumbria County Women’s Football League and with her strike partner Claire Jenkinson also among the goals with ten herself, Harraby have enjoyed a tremendous opening to the campaign.
The superb start – Harraby have beaten Penrith Development 8-0, Abbeytown 8-2 and thrashed Kendal 21-2 – has led manager Tony Boyd to dub them the ‘Dream Team.’
“I knew we had put a really good team together, but I didn’t expect us to be beating teams like we have been,” he said.
“We have great strikers and are solid in midfield and at the back and it’s a dream team, really. We’ve put a lot of hard work into the team and I knew we had one of the strongest sides in the league,” he continued.
“Michaela is a really good player and her goalscoring is unbelievable – but she is only as good as the rest of the team around her who are creating the chances. However, scoring 12 times in a game is an incredible achievement and is great for her personally.”
Boyd is lining up a number of major friendlies against top north-east opposition from Newcastle United, Blyth Spartans and Prudhoe to further test the Harraby side in the future.
